falling
greetings on the evening of the full moon.
astrology-inclined folks, there's a lot of notable astro weather we're in the middle of right now. mercury retrograde began yesterday. mars retrograde has been going on all summer. neptune retrograde is coming. tonight is going to be a lunar eclipse, visible over the middle east. here's a helpful graphic about what is happening in the planetary orbits when a retrograde is going on.
and lately, a few hours after sundown in philly here you can see Venus, Jupiter, and Saturn in the sky all at once, in a shared arc. Mars is rising later and later, but it's fucking gigantic and red. See the moon in this pic below? Then see the smaller dot to the bottom left of it? That's Mars. With the unaided eye, it should look definitively red, almost like when, at first glance, you mistake a passing plane for a star... except that is Mars and it doesn't move except in its orbit.
anyone who's ever been out with me when a planet is visible in the sky has likely had to endure me pointing somewhere out there and saying "See that??" Sometimes I fear this quasi-lecturing is too close to paternal lecturing, and yet it was a patriarch who did indeed teach me how to look for and marvel at the stars and planets, and anyway it's a witch's occupation to learn from the sky.
so how are you doing? my week was weird. i went to HOPE conference in NYC on the weekend (more on that later, but u can check the twitter #hopeconf for all the unseemly details). then this week i didn't eat good at all cause of my own damn mismanagement of all this shit, and so i've been falling asleep like an underfed baby within hours of getting home. it's all good tho cause i finally went grocery shopping.
also, i'd like to bring to ur attention:

Today Mayor Kenney announced he was gonna cancel the info sharing between Preliminary Arraignment Reporting System (PARS) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is GREAT because the motherfucker RAN for MAYOR on the policy that Philly would be a sanctuary city!!!! PARS is like, o u got a parking ticket or some random misdemeanor that logs ur info into a system that ICE actively scans to profile and arrest ppl? So hell the fuck yeah Kenney is gonna cancel that contract. "The only good ice is wooder ice!!"
(for those not from philly, "wooder" is how a lot of us pronounce water –– I say "wahder".) Now the move is on to get the gov to close Berks Detention Center.
Oh, remember when I was like hey I got this random throwaway thank you bag get-together/art show type thing going up at Paradise Diner under the El at Front and Girard? I guess the customers gave the diner so much shit about the weirdness of it all that they had to take them down! HONESTLY I was very skeptical they would be received well in the first place cause that jawn is an OLD SCHOOL type of place, and altho I did my best to make sure the bags were arranged in a nice way that you wouldn't feel weird sitting under, I really can't blame anyone lollll.
my homie who is into pop culture analysis came over the other night and I showed them this Late Capitalism of K-Pop jawn which I recommend as a good view. It's around 18min long and goes into the history of government and media production of South Korea, which I hadn't known before. Deep shit! The rest of the person's YouTube channel was pretty good, too, having some VERY digestible takes on media theory that's normally thrown around in college classrooms.
I've been fantasizing about having a back-to-back deep watch of Minority Report & Soylent Green, but honestly feel intimidated to try and have it at any of the autonomous spaces in Philly due to idek political whatever. I'm VERY shy, hence why I'm usually broadcasting solo or only operating with small crews. but still, gotta get over that. "Fear is the mindkiller..."
anyway... i got deeper thoughts still but tbh nothing feels right to articulate just yet.
from my bed to yours,
monk
